Greetings From the Other Side of the World

Hello Friends and Family,

I'm sorry for the delay in posting.  We got to Hong Kong late last night and then had Internet difficulties so we are just now able to post.

Our flight was uneventful and actually didn't feel like it was 16 hours.  We watched lots of movies and rested, so time when by fairly quickly.  We were fortunate enough to be on a flight that wasn't full, so we had an extra seat in our row which allowed me to lay down for my 'naps'.  Please don't think I was flying in luxury... I'm definitely going to have to find a chiropractor while I'm here.  I only had to take one 'relaxing pill' and that was really out of just wanting to be prepared in case I did start feeling cooped up and such.

I am an emotional wreck as I'm sure all you adoptive mommies and daddies understand.  When we left Atlanta, all I could think about was that it would be the last time we would be in Atlanta without Parker.  Then when we left Detroit, I thought this is the last time I will be in the US without Parker.  And then when we landed in Hong Kong, I just burst into tears thinking how close we were to Parker.  I can't believe we are SO close to him.  It just amazes me.  I'm pretty sure I'm in some kind of emotional shock right now.  My mind can't seem to think too far in advance-- like how we only have this weekend until we meet Parker.  I've already brushed my teeth with the water here and also opened my mouth in the shower.  I'm glad I got that typhoid fever shot after all!  I'm just living day to day right now.  Maybe after a day on the ground, I will finally be able to think of Monday.

Speaking of shower, our room is on the top floor of the hotel.  That would the 30th floor, by the way.  The room its self is maybe 100 sq. ft. and that might be generous.  I think it's smaller than our pink guest room at home.  I'm not kidding!  And the shower, it's so interesting.  The glass is the kind that can either be opaque or clear.  We're not sure if was designed for perverts or just to be able to give the room more of an open feel.   With the click of a button, you can turn the wall in between the bed and shower into a voyeuristic experience because all of the shower is glass and once it's clear, you can see into the entire bathroom.  The buttons are in the bathroom AND on each side of the bed.  Weird.  And just for those of you wondering, we DID have it on opaque!  (With only 100 sq. ft., two people, two HUGE rolling duffle bags, two backpacks, and a carryon suitcase, would it really matter?  It's not like there's ANY place for privacy here!)

Today we're going to spend the day touring Hong Kong.  We'll take lots of pictures, I promise.  I'm not sure how many of those pictures I will be as I just straighted my hair this morning and it's already a fuzzy mess and I haven't even been outside yet.  That happens when the humidity is 87%.

I'd like to give a shout out to all my Pitner 2nd graders!  I hope you guys are having fun with Mrs. Watkins.  I miss you guys already but I promise I'll come to school as soon as Parker is ready!  Be good and I love you guys!

Happy Friday to you guys back home!
Steph

  3. I;m soooo glad to have read this! I've been waiting to hear. Not to mention EVERY SINGLE person (child and adult) has asked me if you were there yet. My class and I will be checking this blog regularly. So watch it, no seedy pics of that questionable hotel room. :)
I miss you both and CAN NOT wait for you to get that baby boy- neither can my class. Oh Danny Fo' has been a plethora (?) of questions lately. WOW! Who knew marrying a person of Vietnam decent could set off these series of questions... Have fun! Jen
